Romeo & Juliet

I must confess I have never read Romeo and Juliet or even seen a movie version, but I love these photos from the 1968 movie.  The elaborate costumes and the somber look of the actors really capture the essence of the way I see the story in my mind.

Jane Austen for Dummies

Have you ever wondered what the difference is between a phaeton and a curricle?  Or, why it even matters?  Enter Jane Austen for Dummies by Joan Klingel Ray, PhD, the President of The Jane Austen Society of North America.  Her smart work explores the politics and traditions of Jane Austen's day.  Here are some of the chapters:
  • Introducing Jane Austen
  • Practicing the Politics of Dancing
  • Experiencing Life at Home in Austen's Day
  • Reading Jane Austen
  • Ten Best Austen Places to Visit.
I really enjoyed reading this book and found it useful for understanding Austen's characters - context is everything.

Fall Style Inspiration: Chanel

Coco Chanel is the subject of a new Audrey Tautou film, Coco Avant Chanel, which depicts Coco's rise to fame.

The House, now headed by Karl Lagerfeld, still creates fashion frenzies with its classic looks and infamous accessories.  The Fall 2009 Ready-to-Wear maintains the iconic Coco style, which is still fresh and exciting, and playful reinvents it for a new generation.
